Game Jolt

( back to main page )

Game Jolt is a place where developers share games, and gamers play games. But it's not just a portal, it's a close knit community made up by people from all different backgrounds. It went live in January of '09 and has been gaining traction in the indie gaming world ever since.

What are you waiting for? Check Game Jolt out!

Noteworthy Features
  • Ad revenue sharing system that records revenue generated from ads on the site and shares a percentage with the developers that make the games.
  • Supports games from any creation tool/platform/programming language, offline (any downloadable game) and online (Java, Unity, Flash and Silverlight).
  • A RESTful achievements API. It includes support for trophies, high scores, data storage, game status, and user information. I worked with other developers to create client code for Game Maker, Java and Flash. I did the client code for C++ and Construct. The system is also fully documented.
  • Fully custom chat and forum systems.
  • Video uploading system that uses Encoding.com as a service to encode the videos into the correct format and JW Player to play the videos in high quality.
  • Devs can upload songs from their game and they'll stream on the game's overview page.
  • The site is community oriented and geared to work more as a social media channel than a regular game portal site.
  • We run game development contests every once in a while. A recent contest generated 50 games.
  • Blogging facilities, as well as a custom news aggregator that pulls in articles from RSS or Atom feeds.
  • The usual stuff, like game ratings, file uploading, game/user commenting, Quick Play technology for downloadable games (written in Java), screenshots, etc.
